I’d say this is me ripping off the style (and failing miserably) of one of my favorite photographers, Max Wanger. I took this on an impromptu trip with my wife to San Ysidro Ranch a couple of years ago. Oh, Santa Barbara ..

Still not sure why I ever left Southern California.

Oh, and even though I failed miserably, I still like the image. Nyah-nyah.

My first spin with the Contax G2 in NYC a year and a half ago. It’s a great walk around camera, but it’s hard to connect with it. Oh well.

I guess there’s SOME merit to doing tourist-y things. This image certainly isn’t the most original, but I’m glad I can be part of the many hundreds (thousands?) of people who have been fortunate enough to experience this view. Kinda wish I had done it sooner when I actually lived in the city, but I’m super happy my wife and I got to experience it together.

I think I’ve used every excuse in the book to find a reason not to like Pittsburgh. Our move here was always meant to be temporary and the fact that we’re past our deadline makes me feel like I’ve failed colossally; I feel directly responsible that we don’t have regular access to King Taco, Pho 21, In’n’Out, Tender Greens, and all of our other favorite haunts.

Fortunately, Caroline has realized a few critical things … that adds a whole level of validity to what I’m doing here … to what we’re doing here. We’ve enjoyed a certain level of financial freedom, heck, even spatial freedom in terms of living space, and more importantly, the whole unfamiliarity of this place and its culture has brought us closer together. California and New York were fun and comfortable … to the point where one could venture out on his/her own and inevitably find something to do and enjoy it in solitude. Not that it’s exactly the post-apocalypse out here, but at times, certainly in the beginning, it felt like it. (The image of the broken truck doesn’t help.)

We had to rely on each other day in day out. And I’m glad we did.

So, I’m not going to lie and say we now love this place and plan to put our roots down here. Sorry. Not by a long shot. But, I will say that I won’t quite regret the move to Pittsburgh long (loooong) after we’ve moved. The dickhead side of me will probably cringe in horror if I ever run across someone preparing to move to Pittsburgh (especially from California), but I’ll give credit where it’s due.

It’s not so bad here.

This image is a little bit of a throwback. Caroline had just cut off a ton of her hair and was rockin’ the pixie cut for a while. She’s relieved it’s grown back since, but I think she’s a doll either way.

I can’t believe it’s already been two months since Caroline and I took a trip to Italy. We were exhausted when we came back home, but I think we can honestly both say it was one of the most enlightening experiences of our lives. It definitely helped that all of our Airbnb hosts were amazing and gave us tons of recommendations in all three of the cities we visited. Needless to say, our ten days there were jam-packed with exploring, eating, marveling, and walking. Sleep definitely took a backseat on this one.

Greece in 2015!
